On Thursday, September 2, 2021, Deacon Luther Tutt Sr., of 553 Chapel Cross Road, Vance, devoted husband, supportive father, and community servant passed away peacefully at the age of 76.
Born in Bessemer, Alabama on October 30, 1945 to the late James and Essie Ray Tutt, Luther along with his parents and siblings migrated to New York in search of social and economic independence found in the northern states.
After settling in Far Rockaway, New York, Luther quickly acclimated to his new surroundings.
Creative, clever and quick- witted, Luther attained his high school diploma from Far Rockaway High School in 1964.
Following
a steady courtship, Luther married his true love, Thelma Moorer in 1966, and together they started a beautiful family.
Being a kind and dependable father was of the utmost importance to Luther.
He gave of himself wholeheartedly to provide the best for his family working two full time jobs (New York City Transit Authority and Independent Coach Bus Company) for over 30 years.
Not only did Luther provide for his biological children but nurtured and advocated for his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and anyone in need.
A man of Christian faith and spiritual insight, Luther was ordained by the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) to the office of Deacon at Community Church of God in Christ (Far Rockaway, NY) under the leadership of the late Superintendent Moses Green.
After retirement, Luther and his wife left New York moving to the peace, quiet and serenity found in Vance, South Carolina.
Following the relocation, Luther became a member of Perfecting Zion Institutional Church where he served graciously and faithfully under the leadership of Bishop Darren Clinton.
