Ruth Evans was born May 2, 1921 in Arcadia, Florida. She was the
third of nine children born in the union of the late Reverend James and Mrs. Lessie (Fogle) Evans. When the family moved to South Carolina, she was allowed to remain in Florida with Uncle James Fogle and family. Upon coming of age, she moved to New Jersey. She relocated to New York where she met and married Sandy Sands. No children were born in this union; yet, she was fruitful. There are many that called her "mother/mama."
Over the years, there was always excitement in the air when Aunt Ruth was coming home. In 1992, she decided to make Santee, South Carolina home. She also chose to affiliate with Greater Friendship AME Church for spiritual guidance. In November 2014, she was joyful upon receiving a plaque from Greater Friendship AME church celebrating her as a loving "Church Mother."
On December 29, 2014, Aunt Ruth made a FINAL decision and moved to a new home. She believed the promise in John 14:1-3. From 221 Friendship Road, she moved to the "Place Jesus prepared for her."
Ruth E. Sands leaves loving memories with all who knew her. She is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Rosa L. Shaw and Mrs. Ranie L. Montgomery of Santee; one brother, Mr. Ernest Evans of New York; and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
God satisfied her with long life nearly 94 years. Hallelujah!!!
